As a dog boarding mentor I'm heavily relied on to ensure the safely and well being of every animal. My work day at Bed and Biscuit operates on a schedule and I work accordingly to what im assigned to do each day on our daily schedule which can be found posted each morning in our breakroom. My duties consists of monitoring k9 group playtimes. One mentor is assign to either play group which is small,medium, or large group. Mentors observe dogs closely and watch for behavioral issues, heat exhaustion, or anything abnormal. Mentors also have to be able to withstand all elements for four hours at a time. Mentors have the option to put dogs up for a break or time out. Mentors working inside the building according to the time of day and feeding schedules- prepare meals for the animals while paying attention to each individuals dietary needs. A second mentor inside the building will be responsible for spending individual one-on-one time with dogs whom cant attend play groups due to reactivity or special needs. All mentors inside are responsible for staying vigilant and ready to act if a dog in playgroup needs to be put away or for check ins/check outs. Mentors assist in taking all the check in dogs to the correct room,suite, or play yard. When notified a dog is going home or checking out the mentor dresses and meets the owner at the lobby. Mentors also need to feel comfortable administering medication. Mornings and evenings some dogs will need medication and this can include insulin or checking glucose. Occasionally, front desk with need assistants and this task can include making reservations over the phone, setting trial day appointments for new comers, giving general information to clients, and assisting in help navagating our website.
