  • Operating various screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo and on passengers, and preventing those objects from being transported onto aircraft.
  • Performing searches and screening, which may include physical interaction with passengers (e.g., pat-downs, search of property, etc.), conducting bag searches and lifting/carrying bags, bins, and property weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Controlling terminal entry and exit points.
  • Interacting with the public, giving directions and responding to inquiries.
  • Maintaining focus and awareness while working in a stressful environment which includes noise from alarms, machinery and people, crowd distractions, time pressure, and disruptive and angry passengers, in order to preserve the professional ability to identify and locate potentially life threatening or mass destruction devices, and to make effective decisions in both crisis and routine situations.

Duties, accomplishments, and related skills:

  • Maintaining a 24-hour surveillance operations center.
  • Contacting appropriate emergency staff, fire, police, and/or FAA personnel, assisting in enforcement of airfield security.
  • Provide surveillance of airport property by observing CCTV monitor, monitoring the fire alarm system and by patrolling the property.
  • Control access to restricted areas by checking identification and clearance list through computer software, respond to access control system alarms, conduct preliminary investigations as to cause; refer to law enforcement officials, as needed; and make reports.
  • Assist in securing the aircraft apron by escorting non-airport vehicles into secure areas and by controlling airfield gates by contractors and vendors.
  • Communicate with air traffic control to inspect the airfield runways and taxiways for anomalies, and issue work orders to the right channels to rectify those anomalies.
  • Spot check secure areas for breeches by patrolling the airfield perimeter to inspect the fences, hangars and buildings, and by identification card requirement.
  • Initiate and coordinate emergency response for the Authority by identifying the appropriate agency or department to contact, making the call and providing clear and accurate information.
  • Act as an information liaison between among the public, tenants, and Authority staff by giving messages via telephone and paging on the public address system.
