I am a senior at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville studying Recreational Therapy. Throughout my studies, I have had wonderful opportunities to broaden my world view by practicing hands on with diverse populations. Throughout these experiences I have found a passion for adolescent mental and behavioral health as an activity therapist at a residential adolescent mental and behavioral health facility. It was here that I narrowed my future career goal of pursuing my MSW to achieve my LCSW and become a direct practice therapist. My volunteer opportunities with individuals with intellectual disabilities is another joy in my life that allows me to give back to the community that has given so much to myself in my collegiate journey.
The Koinonia Foundation is partnered with the University of Tennessee to provide an outdoor education experience ranging from children to adults with differing disabilities. I served as a one-on-one counselor at Koinonia Retreat with adults, providing 24/7 care. I then served as a head counselor twice at Camp Koinonia , a week long camp for children from 7-21 years old, as I managed a cabin of 13+ campers with a counselor for each camper as well. I was also a head counselor at Koinonia Retreat. At Camp Isagoge, a day camp for elementary age children, I designed and implemented an activity for the campers.
