  • Bedside nursing on a Respiratory Step-down unit providing intermediate critical care for high acuity patients. Patient ratios are 1:4 or 1:5. Patient population and treatment management consist of tracheostomies, chest tubes, sepsis, titratable drips (e.g heparin, amiodorone, cardizem), manage ventilators and O2 titration (bipaps for hypercapnia and/or respiratory distress), end-of-life/chronic illness (COPD, CHF, ESRD, etc), noticing acute/subtle changes in patient condition and initiating appropriate protocols or rapid responses, and a variety of other acute illnesses/exacerbation of chronic illnesses.
  • Administered medications and treatments per physician orders and hospital protocols.
  • Collaborated with healthcare team to develop patient care plans.
  • Monitored patient vitals and reported changes to medical staff.
  • Providing discharge education on medications, preventative treatments, signs and symptoms of worsening condition, indications that require contacting doctor or going to emergency department, home health resources, follow up appointments and specialist referrals.
