  • I relocated from the CMC Mill in Alabama to help in the commissioning and start up of the company's first greenfield site.
  • In this position I worked closely with the automation team to ensure that all equipment functioned flawlessly and the process was streamlined for maximum efficiency.
  • After the commissioning process was over my duties were to setup, and maintain all rolling mill parameters involved in making rebar, rounds and t-post.
  • These parameters included setting of a furnace temperature, maintaining a constant flow of material by use of setting speed of mill motors to ensure all bars were of the highest quality, maintaining the correct water pressure in our tempering process.
  • I would also set and maintain the product length, size and grade depending on the orders needed.
  • All of these duties were performed from an elevated control room equipped with several touch screen monitors to ensure quick access to all functions of the mill.
  • I would also help our maintenance crew in troubleshooting issues with all electrical, hydraulic, lubrication and pneumatic systems, along with other mechanical issues that arise for a 24/7 operation.
  • During my time as the pulpit operator my troubleshooting skills and ability to quickly adapt and stay calm under pressure helped to not only reach our goal for the start up date, but beat it by one month, becoming fully operational only 11 months after the groundbreaking to start construction.
  • I made professional relationships with the automation team from the company Danieli (the producer and designers of our mill) to be able to have a mutual trust and could discuss all options and reach solutions during high pressure moments to ensure the best possible operation for the most technologically advanced rebar mill in the world.
  • Our teamwork help to make possible a very streamlined system, with very minimal equipment or manpower function to beyond initial rated capacity.

Danieli Stacker Operator

  • My duties as stacker operator were to load all set ups and make adjustments to make sure all products were properly stacked into uniform bundles, then banded with automatic banding machines.
  • In this mill we produced a large selection of structural bars, from angles, channels and flat bars.
  • Along with the different bars, there were many different sizes of each, and each different size had a bundle size and piece count.
  • It was my job to make sure all bundles were stacked to the correct standards and also keep a very close eye on quality of the bar.
  • I was the last line of sight of the bars before they were bundled and sent to customers.
  • In this position I worked closely with the maintenance crew to rebuild and update the stacker to be able to handle the larger bars produced in this facility.
  • I also involved in the installation and start up of a new system to be able to stack four 20' bundles and the two stacker that was designed to only stack two bundles at a time.
  • This greatly increased to production capacity of the entire process by eliminating a huge bottleneck in the system.

  • In my job as a rolling mill operator I had a very wide area of responsibility.
  • We produced structural metals with a rolling mill.
  • The process involved taking a billet, heating it in a gas furnace and running it through a series on stands that breakdown the billet little by little until the finished product has been formed.
  • My job was to maintain all equipment used in this process, and make sure all stands were set up properly and to ensure top bar quality.
  • During a normal shift I had several lists of items to check to make sure the mill was in top condition.
  • These lists involved make sure all lubrication and hydraulic systems were operation properly, to make sure all bearings were getting ample lubrication and the rolls had proper amount of cooling water on them.
  • I would also record the size of the bar coming out of each stand and double check it with setup dimensions to make sure it was correct.
  • In a case of the bar being out of tolerance I was use my troubleshooting abilities to determine what the cause was, then solve the issue as soon as possible.
  • I would prepare new equipment to be changed out in case of a failure, or for a product change, and have all tools needed assembled and located closely to the needed job to complete it was quickly as possible.
  • I also had housekeeping duties to attend to.
  • In the rolling process a large amount of scrap steel is produced, so I would use an overhead crane to load the scrap into a dump truck to be reused in the melting process.
  • Keeping tools clean and organized was very important to the success of the mill.
  • I would also check dimension and weight of the finished bar several times an hour to make sure a quality bar was being produced.
  • In a rolling mill environment it takes several people to keep the process going.
  • I was able to add by being self motivated, knowing what needs to be done and making sure that it was done correctly.
  • I was also a part of the team.
  • If one section of the process was having trouble I would help out to get things up to speed as quickly as possible.
  • My adaptability, calm attitude, and knowledge of the process help to resolve all issues quickly and safely while maintaining a team attitude and working towards a common goal.
