  • East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN, Rate of Hepatitis C Treatment In and After Pregnancy: What factors predict specialist care following positive screening test?, 12/2024 - present, Designed retrospective cohort study assessing successful connection to specialist care for patients with positive Hepatitis C screening tests in pregnancy and their peers who did not receive specialist care. Conducted extensive chart review and designed data analysis. Reviewed findings for implications for future practice. Ongoing development of clinic-based intervention to increase connection to care in our high-risk population.
  • East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN, Trends in Substance Use Disorder Over Time in an Appalachian City, 03/2025 - present, Designed a retrospective cohort study comparing rates of positive urine drug screens in an Appalachian clinic between June 2024 and January 2025 compared to previously published rates in our clinic. Conducted literature review of relevant studies and reviewed current practice guidelines surrounding substance use disorder in pregnancy. Drafted abstract of scientific findings. Ongoing chart review will contribute to paper publication once final analysis is complete.
  • East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN, Concordant open neural tube defects in a monochorionic twin pair of a dichorionic-triamniotic triplet gestation, 12/2025-9/2025, Identified rare case and reviewed pre-existing literature regarding open neural tube defects and their management. Created succinct, relevant case summary and discussed potential implications for future research. Created and presented abstract of findings.
  • East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN, Buprenorphine and the placenta: does MAT impact placental efficiency? 04/2024 - 05/2025, Designed and executed secondary analysis of data collected from women in rural Appalachia seeking prenatal care. Compared the fetal-placental weight ratio in pregnancies exposed and unexposed to buprenorphine. Identified opportunities for counseling patients who take buprenorphine in pregnancy.
  • Jane Fonda Center, Atlanta, GA, Investigation of Educational Initiatives to Decrease Maternal Mortality in Georgia, 03/2022, 07/2023, Conducted a qualitative analysis of the perceived efficacy of educational materials disseminated through Regional Perinatal Quality Centers in Georgia by postpartum women. Investigated areas for education improvement to ultimately decrease maternal mortality. Developed a patient-facing educational material to help patients communicate symptoms that may be signs of life-threatening illness to emergency care providers.
  • Grady Health System, Atlanta, GA, Secondary Analysis of Teenage Girls' Partner Management, 02/2022, 06/2023, Conducted a descriptive analysis of how self-identified Black girls aged 14 to 19 diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease inform their partners of their STI. Described how partner factors including duration of relationship, relationship status, and communication quality, influence how teenage girls manage their partners, if their partners received treatment, and how they made decisions about their sexual behavior afterwards. Informed opportunities to decrease STI transmission by increasing the number of people treated for STIs.
  • Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA, Video Tool for Hospice Decision-Making, 06/2018, 06/2019, Randomized controlled trial of the impact of a video education tool about hospice on hospice-eligible patient preference for hospice at the end of life. Recruited thirty patients and caregivers to study. Maintained immaculate data records. Communicated compassionately about hospice and end of life wishes with patients living with metastatic solid organ cancer and limited life expectancy. Provided emotional support while discussing hospice.
  • Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA, Sexual Health Intervention for Bone Marrow Transplant Recipients, 06/2018, 06/2019, Randomized controlled trial of sexual health clinic intervention versus standard of care for recipients of bone marrow transplant.
