Nursery Attendant
St Lukes Episcopal Church
Calhoun
10.2023 - Current
Sunday Services - Parents are welcome to drop off their children in the Nursery before attending the service themselves. There are typically two nursery attendants for every shift, although, due to staff shortages that have recently been filled, there have been a handful of shifts where I was the only one working. The number of children typically cared for ranges from 3 to 7, depending on the parents' church attendance, with the majority being under 1 to about 5 years old.
Weekday Classes - Throughout the year, various classes are available to the congregation every week. The largest of these is EFM, or Education for Ministry, which meets during the school year on Thursdays. Again, there are typically supposed to be two attendants; however, due to unforeseen circumstances I was left as the only Attendant halfway through the year. Two to four children were typically present, ranging from 5 to 12 years old.
Vacation Bible School - St. Lukes offers an annual Vacation Bible School that is attended by approximately 20 children, ranging from 3 to 13 years old. It is four days long and contains lessons, activities, and free play time. Volunteers are needed to both supervise and help the children with activities. I was one of four volunteers and spent the majority of the time participating in one-on-one interaction with the children, surrounding their activities.

Two years of experience with United Sound grew abilities in working with differently abled people in an instructive capacity. The club is composed of high school band members acting as mentors to Special Education students who wish to learn a musical instrument.
Link Crew, a club in which upperclassmen help freshman navigate high school, allowed for experience in giving guidance to people closer in age. Small groups of freshmen were given upperclassmen to guide them through activities that taught valuable lessons in a fun game-like format. Contact was kept throughout the school year in order to provide ongoing support and companionship.
