I started with this company by monitoring merchants' processing in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico for fraud committed against merchants by their customers or by the merchants themselves by fraudulently using their terminals.
I would investigate merchants by monitoring their processing, analyzing their transactions, and volumes to find the flaw in their numbers.
I would then take this information and investigate further by calling banks, merchants, and cardholders of the merchants' transactions to gather information regarding what they are processing, and if they are legally allowed to process what was sold. Based on my investigation, I would then determine the action that is needed to move forward. Whether that be by holding a reserve of funds from the merchant's processing in case chargebacks need to be covered, which can be done by stopping their funding temporarily, or I would submit an ACH to their bank account in order to pull those funds to be held by me.
I have provided training for our whole department regarding new procedures, or reminders on old procedures, and have provided training for new hires as well.
I am also a mentor for new hires, and I am assigned new hires when they are boarded to help assist them with their questions while they are out of training and on the floor working investigations.
I currently work in card brand compliance. This involves me working closely with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. I read their manuals to ensure that merchants are following the correct processing rules and regulations set forth by the card brands, to help merchants and US Bank/Elavon avoid fines from them.
I work on our MATCH report, which is Mastercard's database where other processors and banks can report a merchant under certain criteria to alert other banks and processors of a risk-related issue occurring with them. I would sort this raw report, and then find the merchants in our company. I would then close them based on my findings.
I work on authorization testing alerts from the card brands. This is when one of the card brands finds that a merchant may have had someone compromise their terminal and use that terminal to test stolen cards for small amounts. I investigate the merchant's processing, stop the authorization testing, and alert the merchant. Then I respond to the card brand by letting them know the action I am taking to fix the issue.
I register merchants based on each card brand's manual on who needs to be registered with them, depending on what they are processing. I then contact the merchant, inform them of the registration requirements, and submit the registration to the card brands so that US Bank/Elavon stays in compliance and avoids fines.
