Registered Nurse, Intensive Care Unit

NYU Medical Center
New York
04.2020 - 06.2020

Was a part of the massive healthcare response from across the USA to New York City at the onset of the COVID pandemic in 2020. Many ICU’s and negative pressure ICU’s were created out of Med-Surg and other units across the NYU campus.

Worked exclusively in all-COVID ICU’s on the NYU campus, during the onset of the pandemic.

On occasion, per my contract, I floated to other hospitals on the NYU campus to provide ICU care in COVID ICU’s.

All of our patient population were on ventilators and as a result the RN’s were tasked to manage the ventilators, in addition to providing nursing care of our patients. Many complex ventilator setting and gasses were used in the care of the COVID patients.

Many of the patients were on CRRT. I provided support and care to the patients needing this procedure. In addition, I was able to get new nurses trained on this procedure during my time there.

I was tasked by my ICU manager, Alison McKenzie, with orienting Med-Surg nurses to ICU nursing while at NYU. As the ICU travel nurses contracts were ending the Med-Surg nurses then started taking over in the newly created ICU.

The last month of my contract our ICU combined with the ECMO ICU. Subsequently I was able to get educated and oriented to ECMO by fellow RN’s and provided support by starting CRRT on the ECMO patients as needed.
